Absent Friends
Alison - I thought this would be a suitable place to keep absent friends' memories alive - somewhere we could visit to just, well, remember. You may want to consider my alternative title 'The Departures Lounge' - either way, can you make it a sticky so that you can monitor its usage?
Please note - any omissions are due entirely to my lousy memory, and mean no disrespect whatsoever.
Coming to mind immediately, in no particular order, are:
Con-Pilot
Keef
Westie
Davaar
Foss
Snappybits
Duke Elegant
Binos
411A
Who have I missed?

The older I get, the grumpier I get.
I may soon have to start biting people.

Lu Zuckerman.
I knew Lu, whose real name was actually Sam Zuckerman, visited with him at his house a few times. I don't mind saying I bawled like a baby when his wife called with the sad news.
I had also met Davaar a few times. Once spent a wonderful afternoon climbing over the exhibits at the National Air Museum in Ottawa with him.

Thirded! And for the same reason as the previous poster.
You only live twice. Once when you're born. Once when you've looked death in the face.

RegDep (Heikki - his real name who came from Finland) from Where on Earth & Silhouette Challenge. So sudden and unfair. Five years on and I think of him and cry.

Re: Absent Friends
That's very sad to hear.
I shall miss Mike (BH).
Sue if you read this, my sincere condolences to you.
Stoneboat, Norman was seriously ill with emphysema last time I heard from him.
I assume it eventually got the better of him.

Re: Absent Friends
Life is fatal, and we're all on the escalator. Makes sense to me to enjoy our times together with those we love, share as we do on the internet, lament the passing of our friends, and move on.
New souls are born every day, and they inherit the world we leave them.
I like to think the old timers that pass live on within our memories of them. Many are treasured for the personalities and wisdom they shared with us.
The thing that bugs me most, is that some great minds and people were rejected and dispatched, including me, by TOP for spurious reasons, by lesser mortals, which is mostly why I think we are all here, trying to replicate the great global exchange of thought, experience, and outlook.
I want this site to succeed and grow because the dialogue is good now, and potentially great. The trail blazers and valued people we knew from our long association are best served by continuing to remember them.
