Extremely mild here but clouds threatening. Mme off to Heals in quest of the Perfect Bed, which is not what they sent us.

I'm in a melancholy mood. Today I learned that one of my best friends has died.

I met him in prison. He had been sentenced to six months by his father, the Sharif, for his fondness of good Whisky and blondes. We got on really well, having a lot in common. He became the godfather of my son and I am the proud godfather of his eldest son who will now take on the mantle of Sharif.

This evening I shall be raising a glass of Mac30, non-coincidentally gifted to me by him, in memory of a truly lovely human being. Tears will be shed.

This afternoon I binged on Arabic music on the headphones in the big tractor, occasionally getting dust in my eyes.

That's where I intended to post the post, but I clumsily couldn't find the thread.

So sorry to hear the loss of your friend UP. It is a testament of the quality of the friendship that lasted well beyond the prison term.

It was the quality of the man whom I called Sharif, even before he inherited that title, which endures. A thoroughly excellent individual. Real quality.

Their tradition is to bury before sunrise, so there was no possibility of my attending his interrment, but his son, my godson, has indicated that he wishes me to visit if I so wish.

I don't like the morbid Victorian stuff, so I won't make that a point of such a visit, but I greatly hope that he will accept my reciprocal invitation to visit us here quietly. He's a thoroughly good egg.

UP, I guess in circumstances in which you met, you make lifelong friends or enemies. Better the former. Sad that you and his family have lost a good friend, but it sounds like he has left a good legacy, in the form of his son.

Morning folks. Sorry to hear the news UP.

After a few miserable days today is very fine. Cracking sunset last night. Hippos are back from their holiday goodness knows where they have been. Now nearly half the bats have gone. As it is cooler they are probably in the trees around the garden.

Morning all.

Clear blue sky with a hint of thin cloud. Going cooler. Down at 16c and a high of 24c projected.

Have reverted to mid season, warmer, clothing in wearing Sale Sharks rugby shirts from days of yore. Todays shirt sponsor was McAfee - Proven Security.

Condolences UP on loss of your friend.

Mild again here in Teddington. Watching the squirrels and wood-pigeons gamboling as the leaves fall from the giant trees on all sides surrounding our flat. Sadly I still have my cold and am creating vast quantities of mucus, slime and snot.

Power to the Kitchen Island I built. Took all afternoon running the cable thru new ducting to the next room. I am impressed with the quality of the British electrical fittings over the rubbish we have in Spain.
