Awful airport. Awful weather. Any airport that sits at a height of 680 ft / 208 m AMSL in the UK is always going to be a problem, especially in the winter. Re-open DSA I say!
I don't envy the people who have to sort this out overnight in a blustery gale and driving rain.

Re: LBA Closed
The recovery is obviously proving more difficult than originally thought. From an estimate of 0100, then 1000, the latest posting is showing 1400 (maybe) for the re-opening.
Re: LBA Closed
I cannot imagine it will be easy! Waterlogged ground, deep furrows, awful weather..............
Having 'LBA'd' in all sorts in all weathers I do sympathise with the TUI crew. Not an easy airfield.

Agree 100%. I feel sorry for the Tui crew - it could have happened to anyone, and it had previously of course. Maybe they should just close it and re-open DSA

Never a popular place for flight crew, I remember my dad moaning about it years ago!
When all else fails, read the instructions.

Have they dragged it out yet?

Re: LBA Closed
I am told they used boards in front of the gears. Three HGV recovery vehicles to pull it out forwards and when it got to the runway surface it was towed away by a conventional tug.
The land was repaired and yesterday it was difficult to see where it had been.
