We focus on the two dates but that little "-" holds a lifetime of friendship and memories and is far, far more important.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. They've been greatly appreciated. Still miss her terribly, keep looking around to see where she is.

Re: Doggy not well
It seems like a betrayal of one's deceased animal friend, yet sometimes a replacement eases the grief. When our friend S., the good witch, lost her beloved Moonstone, she said "no more cats" but Sunstone turned up four days later and was immediately in such trouble that S had only time to concentrate on the living.
Re: Doggy not well
It isn't disrespectful if you undertake to care for an otherwise abandoned animal in need of love and attention (of which there are many deserving cases).
Unfortunately, the resources of the rescue organisations are limited, and some creatures inevitably cannot be cared for - so it is admirable if you can do your bit to ease the load.

Re: Doggy not well
Alison, how goes it in your dogless world? Any thoughts on whether to continue that way, or find a new companion? We do not have that choice. The front yard is full of black cats, which are not at peace with each other.
Re: Doggy not well
Myf had a double layer coat which she shed continuously. I would have to vacuum every second day. And even then there would be rolls of dog fur skidding across the lounge floor whenever I opened a door. I intend replacing her, but taking a break in the mean time. The thing with dogs is that they are there all the time. But I loved her muchly. Not a cat person at all.

Re: Doggy not well
I don't know how I missed this thread but condolences, Alison.
Our 12 year old Lab, Dexter, is showing his age now. He's had three recent episodes where the Vet thinks a disc slightly pops out in his spine and he goes very quiet and lacklustre. After 3 or 4 days it seems to sort itself out and he gets back to misbehaving like a puppy. Today we also had Horner's Syndrome diagnosed which we thought was just an eye infection but it could be tied up with his disc problem and messages from the brain. He's not bothered by it and it might improve on its own in the coming months.

Tesla is starting to show her age. Still very much a happy, bouncy puppy at times, but she struggles to jump up on the bed (and refuses to use the convenient step we've put there) and she seems to be panting a lot, even when it's not hot. She's due her next cancer check-up later this month so we're preparing for the case where it's spread.
