WTF is happening in the UK?
Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
Great effort by the Met (for a change...)- the sooner the Braver man gets put in the rubbish bin the better, and the rest of the right-wing faction in the Conservative party. I fear, however, Risky Shipwreck is impotent here.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
It does indeed look like the Met did a good job.
Can't see the situation getting better with the Home Sec being this wrong about the Law.
Can these people not read? It's not hard.
I note the New DPP has just binned the Hate Crime Advisory Board, just one of the elements of the British legal system about which the Right of the Conservative Party may actually have a point.

The Home Secretary tweeted:
This is certainly a climbdown from her Times article earlier in the week, which was subtitled
There were indeed several examples of illegal signs at the march, and the Met are reportedly looking for those involved.
However, the Law as it stands does not appear to give the Met grounds for cancelling marches on the basis of a few illegal signs.
The ball remains in the legislators' court.
This would appear to be the latest development in that regard
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/20 ... ts-review/
As to the Police not acting in the other cases she's listed, this would appear prima facie to be a case of insufficient police resources, and arguably an institutional (i.e. the politicians and justice system, not the Police) bias towards muslims. Both of these are her problem as Home Secretary also.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/20 ... ts-review/“Our brave police officers deserve the thanks of every decent citizen for their professionalism in the face of violence and aggression from protesters and counter-protesters in London yesterday. That multiple officers were injured doing their duty is an outrage.
“The sick, inflammatory and, in some cases, clearly criminal chants, placards and paraphernalia openly on display at the march mark a new low. Anti-Semitism and other forms of racism together with the valorising of terrorism on such a scale is deeply troubling.
“This can’t go on. Week by week, the streets of London are being polluted by hate, violence and anti-Semitism. Members of the public are being mobbed and intimidated. Jewish people in particular feel threatened. Further action is necessary.”

..and probably the closest she will get to an apology to the Met.There is a perception that senior officers play favourites when it comes to protesters

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
We either live in a free society where all have the right to have their own opinions, within the bounds of civilized stricture, or we are not democratic (no pun intended). I give huge credit to the Met for their approach over the weekend.
The observer of fools in military south and north...
Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
She has now 'doubled down' on the pro-Palestine rallies. Perhaps she is frustrated because Risky has not yet sacked her. If she lasts past the high court ruling on Rwanda on Wednesday things will get very interesting.
I assume the Tory party has now completely abandoned any hope of winning the next election and is now settling down for yet another chasm. Time for a Truss? We have the new top three posts sorted with Quasi and Braverman in place. Dear old Michael Green (aka Shapps) is pawing at the edges of the dog bed hoping for a scrap or two.

Braverman is out, Cleverly moves from the Foreign Office to the Home Office, and Cameron returns from the wilderness to the Foreign Office.
How it will work with Cameron I don't know.

By 'pool', I presume you mean 'toilet bowl'.
The only stuff remaining is that which wouldn't flush.

Braverman looks bloody pleased with herself in this morning's doorstep photo.
It would seem to add weight to the theory that she is positioning herself to be elected the next leader when Rishi resigns after losing the next general election?

It's obviously time to bring back Boris and Nadine. Dave 'hug a hoodie' will obviously get on well with all the various protest groups.
PS May I direct you momentarily to the 'site problem' thread?

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
If any of the recent events - back to Boris the Buffoon days - had been used as a plot line in "Yes Minister" or "Yes Prime Minister", viewers would have dismissed them as too fanciful. In fact the themes used in those two series look like a model of probity compared to antics of the snake-oil merchants, bindlestiffs, and rapscallions (not) presently governing the country.

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
The Torygraph points out that the Government is now on its 8th Housing Minister since 2019, and 16th since they came to power in 2010.
In that department at least, they could not be governing even if each Minister had been individually up to it ( ).
The only Ministers to have held the office for at least 2 years - arguably the minimum time to understand the problems and make a difference - were
Yvette Cooper (Labour) 2005-2008 2-1/2 years
Hillary Armstrong (Labour) 1997-1999 2-1/4 years
George Young (Conservative) 1990-1994 3-1/2 years

I see the media are posting their usual 'Who's In and Who's Out'
I suspect a much shorter list would be 'Who still gives a F#ck'

Re: WTF is happening in the UK?
What an insult to all those eager MPs and ministers, that Sunak thinks there's no one amongst them capable of being the new home secretary. Braverman wanted to be sacked so she could snipe at Sunak from the back benches in her own play for power. Cameron ruled by sofa and focus groups of people selected to state whether a particular proposal from his 'team' would be popular or not. Unpopular - scrap it, popular float it as a leak in the press to see the public reaction, ditto if deemed unpopular.
I think that as this government founders on the rocks of public opinion, distrust and even anarchy the present spats will seem mild and the in-fighting will be like rats in a sack. Suitable end for one of the weakest and divided governments ever, who deserve a term or two in the wilderness in order to work out who they are and what they stand for. They even had the 'red wall' support and squandered that!
