As a slight aside, the Russian word for helicopter is вертолёт, pronounced 'vertalyot'. Since Russian is an old language, there were no words for flying machines, so one was invented by Nikolay Kamov of Kamov Helicopters during a meeting in February 1929. The word comprises two other words, верте́ть (vertétʹ), to turn or twist, and -лёт (-ljót), to fly. The word for aircraft is самолёт 'samalyot' which basically means self-flying. End of Russian lesson - for now! It is looking increasingly likely that the Russian I learned in school and in the field, so to speak, may come in useful in the not too distant future...

I used to joke that my main skill is shooting down Russian aircraft, which isn't much use any more.
Almost everyone now replies with something on the lines of "That may come in handy again soon!"
