Re: Where do the OFSOs go ?
I see that it took 22 months to sell before she bought it. That's almost two years of relatively boom times in real-estate. I don't understand why it was so (relatively) cheap. It's a lot of house and of beautiful land.
Wrt what attracted her to it, in her circumstances, I'd guess the name was an eye-magnet for her.

Seeing as it was bought from a lawyer, and the deal was probably done by a lawyer, it was all a case of, 'I know of a place!'

Bet there's no decent internet access. Property tax seems to be an eye-watering $22k/year.

Re: Where do the OFSOs go ?
Not sure about definition of permanent at my age, but my wife is buying a small flat for us in Teddington. There is absolutely nothing secure about owning property in Spain and even less when one member of a couple dies - we don't know a single widow here who has not endured months or years of paperwork after her spouse died - this then gives Mrs O a foothold in her name in her country.
Not for nothing do many deaths go unreported in Spain - there are several houses in our street owned by dead folks.

Re: Where do the OFSOs go ?
Might as well delete this thread. Surrounded by IKEA packaging and likewise Amazon. Hands red and sore from screwdrivers, arse flat from sitting on the deck. Miserable from shouting at wife who is trying to tidy up while I work, half blind from searching for tiny fixings wot rolled away.... But truth to tell we now have a HOME of our own in the UK, very very small, in fact smaller than the living room in Spain, but surrounded by a small forest in which birds sing, rabbits frolic, and South West trains roar every fifteen minutes. So when fascism returns to Spain and we do a 'retirada', we have somewhere to go...

Kαλορίζικο. Hope it works out there. I once lived right next to six train lines at RAF Northolt. Got used to it. Does the building have security? Have you got a walk planned out yet?

Apartment is in a modern block, not many flats. Usual security devices. There's a friendly WhatApp net where matters of interest are posted, also greetings. First impressions are no riff-raff and at Teddington prices it's not surprising. Car park is almost exclusively BMW and Mercedes. And our roller skates.

Are you missing your trains and choppers?

I tried to get google to play train recordings but it only has US steam trains with plaintive whistles. As for choppers, the sound here fills us with dread, as we rush outside sniffing for smoke..... Saw one at the weekend with a water container slung under it, but no fire locally.

Re: Where do the OFSOs go ?
Thanks. None quite like the older or newer versions of South West Services. Will have to make my own recording.
As for the chopper, does anyone else find very pleasant the sight of a Chinook weaving it's way home at dusk?

Re: Where do the OFSOs go ?
I find the sight of the Coastguard and RN helicopters flying along the south Devon coastline reassuring, especially when I'm swimming in the bay.
