Re: Here's a beast!
Does flying this aircraft alone, imply formation flying?
A beautiful beast indeed! Sounds very good and clearly very maneuverable too. I wonder about its one engine out performance, and wonder which engine is the critical engine?

Yes, but staying in position is not too difficultDoes flying this aircraft alone, imply formation flying?

Re: Here's a beast!
That differential thrust idea takes us all the way back to Janusz Zurakowski and his Catherine wheel like maneuver in the Gloster Meteor!
Zurakowski was renowned throughout the aviation world for his astonishing acrobatic skills, one spectacular manoeuvre in the Gloster Meteor - which was unique to him - being named the "Zurabatic Cartwheel". In Canada he flight-tested many marks of the CF100 jet fighter, which had long service with the RCAF. He also made the maiden flight of the Avro Arrow, an advanced Mach2 interceptor, which was later cancelled by the Canadian Government.

Boac's Beast
See here for the Zurabatic Cartwheel.
Apparently the extreme asymmetry of the Meteor, which made it a dangerous aircraft, with one engine out, made the manouevre possible. The recovery from the last part of the routine was walking the fine line between success and entering an inverted spin, which was unrecoverable in the Meteor. Zurakowski was an aerobatic genius.
I wonder how "Boac's Beast", as the Yak-110 will be known to me from now on, would perform doing the same?

Re: Here's a beast!
I actually saw Zurakowski do it at Farnborough. I'm that old.............. Essentially little different to a stall turn except crisper.

I bow to crisp 360 degree stall turns and those who saw Zurakowski.

Re: Here's a beast!
My point being Boac, that seeing the Zurakowski Wheel manouevre as a simple stall turn, might be so to those gifted souls like yourself, but is so much more than that and is effectively completed in a spin... after a full 540 degree, asymmetric power induced rotation!TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 5:17 pmCorrection rotation through 540 degrees!TheGreenGoblin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 1:26 pm

Re: Here's a beast!
The spin has nought to do with the 180 at the top. Probably deliberate for effect. A stall turn is 180 degrees, not 540!

Re: Here's a beast!
For God's sake man I know that, even I can perform a stall turn!
Read the description of the Zurakowski Wheel as noted in the diagram above. I know it is not Aresti notation but still!
540 degree cartwheel followed by a double spin! Of course it is done for effect, it is an aerobatic manouevre!
Your glasses must have misted up when watching old Zurakowski back in the day! Youthful blindness and you know what causes that!

Re: Here's a beast!
Well, I am only exhibiting confusion as to
followed by several references tocrisp 360 degree stall turns
That would make 2 circuits in a Cessna 150 a 720 degree 'manoeuvre'?after a full 540 degree, asymmetric power induced rotation!

Re: Here's a beast!
I was being somewhat ironic... but clearly your irony meter was caged yesterday. Probably the beast within eh?
540 = 90 + 360 + 90 or 360 + 180 if you will!
