I like this place but it sure has gone quiet these days...

We need more life here...

If I am wrong...

Bugger it... wake up!

Maybe I should start a topic about some of the interesting places it has been my lot in this life! :ymsmug:

This was less than one hr from your first post. I work, and cannot sit here checking in every 2 minutes.

We certainly need 'more life' here, but with a distinctly aged membership (apologies to the 'younger' ones...) we are bound to be sliding slowly into the mixed metaphors sunset, and many of us, myself included, have significant family medical issues which take a lot of time. OHL - have you brought any new members into the site? Excluding re-births, of course (-|

NB As G~man said, most of us cannot work on OHL's frenetic timetable.

It would appear OHL has 'gone to sleep' - or is he just 'dying'? Hopefully sleeping off whatever excesses triggered this thread?

Apologies to G~man, I certainly don't expect him to be "hovering" around waiting to answer specific questions from me, although I can be an impatient soul, tis true.

No criticism of any of the good souls here should be imputed from my comments. We definitely do need to grow the number of members though, as Boac says, not least to make up for the natural wastage, as we inevitably fall, one by one, from our precarious perches! The grave yawns wider by the day etc. etc., "he says brightly!" ;)))

Judging by the number of times you post (see how many times your name, in your various avatars, appears on the board index-on average about 10-13 times per day) you have a lot of time on your hands-perhaps getting a hobby might help? :-bd

My work involves sitting in front of a screen developing or correcting software, often waiting for a test script to run, or waiting for a very large database to update etc. so it is very easy to post here, within the context of the threads of real work. Yes, possibly too easy, I admit.

I have plenty of other hobbies well away from screens etc. but you are right, posting here does probably constitute a waste of one's time, and these interludes could be better spent, learning a new language or writing the next blockbuster, reading about quantum computing or something like that...

I think my comments were really aimed at the lack any commitment here to aviation related content save for a very small, and shrinking, number of regular posters, and this trend has just continued to the site's detriment over the last two years methinks.

Anyway, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter I guess, 5 or 13 posts, 41 or 43 users, they are just prime numbers when all is said and done.

Re: Aviation related stuff, sortof!

#14 Post by John Hill » Sat Sep 30, 2023 4:16 am

We hosted a wedding at the museum yesterday so it was tow a bunch of stuff outdoors and lay out the tables and chairs.

I believe the ceremony went well but this morning was putting-away time which coincided with a rather stiff wind, the poor old DC3 being freed for her pitch in the hangar and with a good airflow under her tail took it upon herself to waltz around about a bit while numbered geriatrics performed a rather pitiful show of trying to wrangle her with ropes, tug and varied chocks. Eventually all was saved when an experienced jockey of such machines rather nimbly managed to open the rear door and grab the reins. I think she would have done grievous damage to herself and someone's hangar if left much longer to her own devices.

There are a few pics on farcebook but I am not clever enough to post a reference here! :( The pics were posted on facebook by RogerAndIsla Jones.

No rebirthing I promise Admin2, but I have gone on a charm offensive and ops-normal boosting with some of my flying cronies, one of whom who tried to have a look at the site today and noted that he isn't able to see any of forums/threads on the forum and thus without actually registering isn't able to get any perspective on what the pace is about at all!

I checked that this was the case from my work server in the USA, and get the same result, although of course I can log in.

This board has no forums

I assume this is not intentional and may be an artefact of some of the changes that were made recently? OHL, as always perpetually puzzled! ;)))

If it makes you feel any better just look what a weekend of changes by the big software boys caused today... the list is far longer, but you get the picture... :)
