Selfies
Selfies
ok, something to celebrate the World Mental Health Day (from the DWail, of course):
Annie, a 14-year-old schoolgirl from the south west of England:
If you don't take selfies, you're a social outcast. You have to do it to fit in. Those who don't aren't as popular at school.
I take selfies about ten times a day and post about two on Facebook – any more and people get annoyed and won't 'like' your photo. And it's all about getting likes – the more you have, the more popular it means you are.
I spend about two-and-a-half hours a day taking selfies and if I get less than 75-80 likes, I delete it. That's embarrassing and it makes you worry not as many people like you as you thought.
But lots of likes can put you in a better mood all day. I like to get over 100 likes - often you go around school saying to people 'Like my photo, like my photo', to get more.
My record is 195 – it's my aim to get over 200.
Everyone has a 'selfie face' - the face they pull for photos. I always smile, whereas other girls pout or do peace signs. Your selfie face changes like fashion.
My selfie habit drives my mum mad as I often use her camera to take them because it's better than mine, and then she says she has to spend a long time deleting all the pictures I've taken.
We talk about them a lot at school, maybe for half an hour a day with different groups of people.
Often when I'm bored, I'll put all my make up on to take a selfie, than take it off again once I've got one I'm happy with.
I'm pretty happy generally, and love sport: surfing and playing handball, especially. Or I like spending nights in watching Netflix with my family.
My brother, who's 13, loves selfies but for him it's all about the hair - he has to have the right kind of gel.
'Could YOUR daughter be damaging her self esteem by taking selfies? The sad answer is yes...'
sounds quite crazy for me (but of course I'm old, yes, RiS ) - and my young ones don't even have F-book.
But, seriously, about ten times a day and two-and-a-half hours...

Re: Selfies
I was talking about kids, school, uni, working etc the other day. My sister in law said that kids / teenagers
waste more time on social media than working (as opposed to doing uni work) !
As for selfies, never much been one for photos but going by the photos I have of the last 15 years,
90% would have a dead animal in them so not sure "my" selfies (if I took them) would be appropriate !!!
Who needs 100's of photos of themselves staring up at a camera ?????

They always seem to have the reek of failure and despair about them.
Re: Selfies
Sad, but when was being a teenager ever easy and stress free?

Yeps, older here as well. Never taken a selfie. Most of the photographs I do take seldom have any people in them at all. Usually sullies up the landscapes. Someone once called them "lonely pictures". I would say they are purer.

Re: Selfies
"Selfies" tend to be ourselves, rather than myself, mainly on holiday. "Selfie sticks" are the work of the devil, and ownership of one should be punishable by being torn apart by wild tortoises.

Why not just be beaten with sticks?

Re: Selfies
To me, "selfies" are the ultimate in narcissistic behavior. "Look at me, am I not wonderful?"
Selfie sticks should be banned as a crime against humanity. And the owners shot.

Re: Selfies
I'm not against selfies of the female personage with naked big tits.
Only selfies I ever took was that of my...how shall I tastefully say it..."elongated" dong which was sent to my soon-to-unex'd ex (before she was ex'd) as a now-and-then unworded reminder that I was thinking of her.
And a couple of um... ladies of certain distinction!

Re: Selfies
Another vote for the destruction of selfie sticks. They should be heated to red hot, dipped in battery acid, and then rammed, blunt end first, up the backside of the moronic user.

Selfie sticks...AKA Wands of Narcissus
Re: Selfies
A metal stick with a brainless twat pulling a stupid face on one end and a camera/phone on the other.
Re: Selfies
Ah... those silly bloody things. Thanks Cape. I've seen one or two in real life - but rarely - and then only when overnighting in Europe. Must be due to the places in which I permanently live and work.

Re: Selfies
what the hell is wrong with selfies?
how else would a guy get a photo of himself flying with his daughter as passenger?

That's different, you're doing something.
As opposed to taking a photo of just oneself or a group pulling faces.
Re: Selfies
Don't have a cow W8. We were talking about the retards with overblown egos, not those who take selfies as an efficient way of conveying an image for a useful purpose.

Re: Selfies
I have in the past been requested (read instructed) by Senior Management to get a photo of the pair of us on holiday as the other members of SM's coven don't believe I am actually there as I am always behind the camera. (Being 5ft 6in short means I can easily be lost behind the third row in group photos.)
The last time we asked someone else to take a photo of us we were two blurs blocking the view of a perfectly in-focus Budapest Parliament building. Can't think what happened there.
