There's someone I love, not in a romantic way, who is desperately ill right now.

This is one of those songs that gets into your head. I find it very sad and depressing.
This version from 1962 is recorded by the writer but others have covered it.

My old man was a hard man and had no time for hippies! As he used to say to me, "you go around handing out flowers and one day somebody will shove your bloody flowers up your arse"... so it serves him right, dead as he is, that whenever I listen to this song I think of him... and smile! :)

Joan Baez, Peter Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen,Procul Harem, the Foundations, the Bee Gees, the flower power generation, Sandie Shaw, Dusty Springfield, lots more, on until 2100.
