We did buy Misty a scratch pad yesterday and she did obligingly have a go, it is impregnated with cat nip which got her going even more. I am sure it is stress related, she doesn't appear to be angry and in fact is very affectionate and is always pleased to see you, head butting and nuzzling. She is intelligent and in other respects tries hard to fit in to her new home, perhaps she will be better when she starts to go outside, possibly next week or so.
She hasn't been too bad this morning and now is having a good kip after some grub and a wash.
Boring week ahead, however brightened up by the prospect of rubbing down a garden chair and the last (for a while) visit to the Child Dentist. Doing a days work on Thursday, 0600 start, two hour drive to Oxford and back again in the evening, helping out a mate who is about to be turned over by the CAA.
Hand has healed perfectly, not even a plaster on it, still tender and tugs when I put weight on it, the original symptoms have gone away so a good fix.

OM15, good show abt hand. Mrs OFSOs hand healing slowly but surely, even faster now she has rehab putty to play with. This stuff is obtainable from amazoon in various grades. The NHS putty she has is medium, she reckons a hard grade would be better.

Cat scratching pads. Humm. I think we need a bloody big one here at the moment. Tracks indicate leopard, right outside the house. We had one the same time of year 12 months ago. Haven't seen it or smelt it but think we have it around. Probably a female with a cub again. They get tetchy.

Thunder in the distance let us hope for rain. Must put towels out to dry the cub.

A sunny but windy day here, gusting 46. A mere breeze in comparison to ricardian's abode - it was gusting 73 in Kirkwall half an hour ago so I expect Stronsay is much the same.

Slightly breezy in London. Mrs OFSO had to go out and swear an Oath. She's been practicing ever since we joined the EU...

Indeed. One such killed a tour guide who had briefly stepped out of his vehicle in Kruger, a week before my visit.

Must have been a nasty experience for the bus-load of survivors, as well.

Not necessarily. A crocodile took an American tourist off a boat in Northern Australia a few years back, and visitor numbers from the US tripled as they came to see where it happened.

He must have been a complete idiot. You know what is around by all the animal, bird sounds, tracks and activity. It is called reading the bush. You can become a guide in S.A. by just virtually buying a licence. Here in Botswana it is a very tough process. Not saying there are not great guides in S.A. as we know some but just stating fact.

Edit, posts crossed Alison. Was it Crocodile Dundee tours?

A cat scratching post is a sound investment.

They can be easily made from old carpet of off cuts of new carpet.
Visit a carpet warehouse and scrounge the centre piece of 'tube' from a roll of carpet and work from there.
I made a cat condo once, similar idea. Two bits of chipboard for top and bottom, wrapped a bit of cardboard around them and attached it with some tacks, then stuck a carpet offcut round the outside. Sawed a hole in one side so they could get in if they wanted. It's almost 20 years old now.

Strange, we have had four cats in our time and none of them ever scratched anything, apart from the last one who would swipe the dog across the nose if she was in a bad mood if she was in a good mood they would sleep together on the same bean bag. The dog used to rub his back on the back of the settee, which gave mrs1DC justification to have it cleaned once a year. One of the wife's friends who lived in a condo in Toronto had a cat whose claws had been removed by a vet because she never went out, seemed a bit unfair to me but the cat seemed happy enough. She had even been trained to pee in the toilet.

UDP that is us but perhaps 5 years ago. Jetty is longer now and the ship has a new top. Also no fruit trees in evidence. However Sir you have the coordinates for a cruise missile strike on the estate. Hit the oranges not the lemons please, they are doing OK.

Good grief, Ex-A's place is now located on all ICBM's around the world and is now programmed as a waypoint in Caco's GPS lest that slacker Slasher loses track when we are flying there.

.......................Interesting article HF thank you. Almost tempted to buy a barge and cruise around but then thought about the weather. They must be damp and cold and expensive to maintain. Wot do you do when it is pissing it down with rain?
Wouldn't buy a barge as they carry freight and have very little/no shelter. A narrow boat on the other hand can be a very comfortable abode. Our trip boat has central heating for when the weather is a bit inclement. When it's pi$$ing it down, we sit in the cabin and drink tea (other beverages may also be consumed). :-bd

They can be expensive; if you are going after a new one, a good rule of thumb to calculating the cost is £1500 per foot of length although there are plenty of pre-owned boats available. Before you splash the cash on a boat, make sure you have secured a mooring.

Here's a photo of the latest lock we're tackling - It's in a worse state than the previous one which, in a funny way, makes the rebuild easier as we'll be starting with virtually a blank canvas as we have to take down a bit lot more the whole lot.
