Nerd's Corner - Ice cool aircraft recognition game.

#1 Post by Cacophonix »

Calling all aviation enthusiasts, spotters, pilots and general geeks. As a starter I offer you the following. If you have personal experience of any of the aircraft that are presented here tell us a little bit about them, if you have flown them, read about them, anything interesting to fulfill the inner nerd (don't be shy, you won't be alone in your perverse pleasure in such matters).

As a starter I present the following! What is it?

The Bloch MB.150 (later MB.151 to MB.157) was a French low-wing, all-metal monoplane fighter aircraft with retractable landing gear and enclosed cockpit, developed by Société des Avions Marcel Bloch as a contender in the 1934 French Air Ministry competition for a new fighter design.

Bang on om15. It is interesting to see that it was also flown by the Germans in small numbers as well during World War II.

You have the next recognition choice.

At the risk of being too quick off the mark (and as there aren't many folks about at the moment) I am guessing at the Ryan Dragon Fly...?

Definitely looks like a STOL machine to me.

The wheels and general shape are reminiscent of the French Criquette but I am probably barking up the wrong tree if not mad?

More than a whiff of DC-3 about this one. Don't think it is the Li-2 or the Japanese Showa/Nakajima L2D as they kept the nose shape.
Looking.

Good thread BTW.

Cowlings/nacelles and UC seem very DC3, as does the general stance, fuz is very different though asn lacking the characteristic leading edge sweep of a Douglas, got me foxed
