From the Torygraph:
Possibly a little late? One of Rupert Murdoch’s top lieutenants has warned that AI threatens a "tsunami" of job losses and could crush readers under a weight of "maggot-ridden mind mould"

Indeed, particularly when you consider the ordure that the Murdoch's stable of so-called "newspapers" churns out without the aid of any intelligence, artificial or otherwise..
From my work perspective, particularly ref. software development, AI is an amazingly useful tool, particularly when trialing new techniques or technologies.

OHL, I think you're being overly generous too the dirty digger.

The time to get really worried is when ChatGPT figures out how to edit Wikipedia and other sites, so it can install the references it quotes.
Re: Rant of the Day v2.
My 5G home internet continues to be problematic with numerous freeze-ups or outright dropping of streaming capability. It sometimes requires re-logging in to whatever service I am using at the time.
Speed tests are showing decent download speeds...30 to almost 40 Mbps however upload speeds are only .05 to.5 Mbps.
I have just about given up hope that tech support can pinpoint a solution.
I really don't want to go the hassle of changing providers not to mention the much greater expense for questionably better service. I have been hearing less than good reviews about the other available providers.

BIG RANT!!
The G20 has managed to pussy-foot and bow to pressure from Russia and severely diluted the joint declaration on 'issues' including Ukraine so that Russia hails the declaration as a 'success' while Ukraine fumes. What a waste of time!
On the BBC at lunchtime, a UN 'representative' on torture said that they had thousands of certain cases of sexual and other torture carried out by Russia on people in occupied territory.
So - why is Russia still a member of the UN? Chuck them out. Remove this 'veto' they have. Bring military force into play to cease this barbarism. In #528 in viewtopic.php?f=64&t=6661&p=375756#p375756 someone suggested that NZ should leave the WEF, WHO and the UN. I think the UK should join them without delay.

Although our new (Friday) fibre connection is installed correctly, they haven't switched me on at the 'other end'. Obviously staff not working at the weekend, and tomorrow is a public holiday....
So still working on stuttering (1mB) Moviestar.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
The Spanish rail operator RENFE is aiming to have the worst rail network in Europe.
Firstly in order to force people onto the expensive AVE or high speed train, they have cut 80% of the express Media Distance trains. The MD now are only scheduled at (eg) 5am or 8pm. This leaves the Regionales, Figueras-Barcelona every two hours - maybe - which literally stop at every station. Three hours! Faster by car. Then they shortened the Regionales by 50%, so not only painfully slow but horribly overcrowded, as in passengers sitting on the floor. Anyone complaining about UK trains, come and try Spain.....

.... Oh, and the high speed AVE train stations having been built miles from nowhere (sound familiar?) only accessible by car (well our local one is) with nowhere to leave the car expect Frightfully Expensive Parking.
20 years ago Spain had a superb rail network, cheap, fast and comfortable. Now? No.

Arrived at Barcelona railway station last night two hours early for return trip, only to find an unscheduled express leaving for my home town within a few minutes. Didn't appear on official or unofficial train websites. Utter chaos in station (mainline, regional andAVE terminal, 20 platforms) but caught train. Home 12 hours after I left yesterday morning.

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
25kg of Hydrolift MG pellets is enough to de-acidify our private water supply for roughly 3 years. In 2020 it was priced at £53. I drove 30 miles to get another 25kg bag this morning. £93.70!!!!!!!! When I picked my jaw off the floor the guy behind the counter said "It's all down to being unable to get it from Ukraine, you know".
Really? I can't believe that it's impossible to get 2-5mm size grains of chiefly magnesium oxide anywhere else in the world at a reasonable price.....

The cost of a 50lb tub of chlorine powder for the swimming pool here went up from around $150 to $400. I bet they don't get that from Ukraine.
Fortunately, in a normal year I use less than two tubs of it.

Twitter shut down its general access because GTPs were sucking up the bandwidth training their AI logic on it.
AI trained on Twitter comments. Think about that for a moment.
And if you do think about it for a moment, you will be thinking about it longer than the people who decided to use Twitter to train AI systems.
I built my barn second floor in the last month. The price of floor board has gone from $25 in 2020 to $52 in 2023.
I bought my board in 2020, before Covid was called Covid, whilst the Chinese were still insisting it wasn't happening.
