Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread 1
Here's a interetsing snippet.
This day in history:
1754
August 24. A woman named Elizabeth Rochester made her
escape from Durham gaol. She was one of the gang of Faws, or
strolling depredators, who infested the northern counties at this
period.
The 'gang of Faws' were groups of Gypsies who were known for the occasional plundering and pillaging on the border counties.
The best known Gypsy family of Scotland were the Faw or Fall , changed over time to Faa, but the name became generic to many other families linked to them far back in the history of the Scottish Border Gypsies : Blythe : Baillie : Clark ouglas :Gordon: Heron Macfarlane: Montgromey : Rochester :Rutherford: Tait : Kennedy ; Young :Winter: Welsh : Williamson

Just thinking there must be teenagers alive today that have never seen a proper Summer and blokes in their forties who have never seen a proper Winter, by this I mean real Summers and Winters such as occurred every year when I were a nipper int olden days

Not 'arf. I remember the tunnels I dug through the snowdrifts on the lawn in the 1947 winter. A tribe of what we called Eskimos in those days could have camped out there.
Then we had that summer with 4 separate high pressure areas just gently sliding back and forth and up and down. Drought threats everywhere, but it was great for playing out in.

What do you call the "olden days" ?
What years were bad from 1960 onwards ?
Snow over wellies - reasonably often in the late 60's, 70's
-19 or so in about 1980/81/82
Were you alive when the sea froze in the cold on in the early 60's ?

Hello Tony!
Just a quick hello from me, too, FSL, then it's beer o'clock.
Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread 1
SWMBO has recently arrived back from the UK where a 20 year old grandaughter had her first sprog. Just before said sprog was due
SWMBO suggested that the mother to be had a relaxing warm bath. 18 year old grandson responded "she mustn't have a bath as that
will drown the baby!!!". Yes he was serious but then again he thinks Hong Kong is in Japan.
Baby didn't drown ( surprise surprise ) but at 2 weeks old mother was a tad sore breast feeding her sprog and thought it must be because
the baby was teething, ( it isn't of course ). What are these children being taught these days?
Oh yes and the 22 year old ( going on 2.5 year old ) was quite annoyed that the baby might arrive on HER birthday, something that had
better NOT happen as it was her birthday alone and not a date to be shared. She also had a major sulk as one night when she was in bed
a pizza was delivered and no-one woke her up to tell her. Another pizza HAD to be delivered the next night.
Thank goodness I wasn't there, I was on holiday at home with just the cat LOL !!! Mind you we got into a good routine which was totally
disruppted when SWMBO arrived back.:0(

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread 1
Good morning all.
An early start thanks to the insomnia fairies playing up all night.
The usual grey start to the day here.
Autumn has definitely been creeping around these last few mornings. It has that smell about it.
Only 122 more sleeps until Christmas
Thanks to everybody for the avitar advice. My brain must be slowing down.
I've just discovered a box of tangerine orange herbal teabags in the cupboard and might try one for a different start to the day.
Nice to see Mr D aboard. Makes it all sort of complete on here.
