Good morning all, fine day with some cloud. Currently 16C, forecast max 20C.
Jim, you have reminded me to have our oven checked. Mrs. H noticed that an oven thermometer was reading high compared to the thermostat setting. I monitored it and also tried a new oven thermometer. It seems to overheat, then sometimes return to about the correct temperature. I suspect that the thermostat is sticking. If I can find someone to check it out, fixing it will probably cost more than a new oven...if it's possible to get a new thermostat. I'll investigate further.

Some of these things depend on how confident you are at reassembling things (dismantling is usually easy...) I've replaced various parts on several domestic appliances over the years - if you can narrow down the fault, use a search engine to look for spares for the model number in question and chances are you can buy a new part on-line.

Most recent here was the heating element on the dishwasher, but I've done a couple of tumble-dryer thermostats and a few other things too. Got to dismantle the AC unit in the bedroom and see why the fan has seized before the temperature gets too hot to maintain domestic harmony.

Thanks Llondel, I'll see if I can find online a way to access the thermostat - it's not immediately obvious. If I can see the problem I'll probably be able to buy a replacement on line, as I've bought parts for a dishwasher and washing machine of the same vintage. The company used to have a physical shop not too far from here, but I think that's gone/moved.

Morning folks. Sunny very cold start. House thatching complete after 13 days of mayhem. 4 guys 11 hours a day. There are bits of grass everywhere you look. Big clear up this afternoon. They have started on the library now. That will be at least six more days but two sides are on the outside of the estate over sand.

.....despite the mess they do seem to have done very nice job. There is always going to be a bit of a mess given the type of materials being used. As long as they do the clearing up I would be happy with that job. The real test will be your first rainstorm.

Looks like a neat job.
A replacement thermostat is available, but access is via the rear of the oven. Normally I'd have no qualms about turning off at t the cb, and replacing it, but I don't fancy doing any heavy work at present. Doesn't look like it has an adjusting screw, but I may take the front panel off to check.
Went for a short walk today, felt good to get out, but bum & thigh muscles were a bit stiff.

Looks very nice, ex-A. Do the thatchers there not put a small symbol on the top, like they do in the UK? A hippo maybe...?

Yes. At some of the luxury camps they sometimes put the name of the camp. I suppose we could have asked.

A.M. Most of the original thatch is still beneath it and that didn't leak so we should be OK.

Surprised about the palpitations OFSO with all the walking you do. I suffer from the same problem from time to time but usually it's when I get lazy and don't walk enough.
Have a good trip to Paris. Is that the definition of an oxymoron?

YouTube can be quite helpful on occasion. There are any number of videos of people replacing various parts on a range of appliances. I also find it useful for car maintenance, lets me assess the difficulty of a job and decide whether I'm going to do it or if I'm going to pay someone.

Thanks Llondel, replacement is pretty straightforward with a couple of beefy blokes to help pull the oven out, as is removal of the front panel. I'll see if YouTube can tell me if the thermostat has an adjustment. Many do, but there are no detailed specs available, it seems.

That looks very professional Ex-Ascot, I was simply musing as to what the thatch would look like if you had left it up to your employees, came
to the conclusion that you would be looking for a new dwelling.

Hope all's well with you, OFSO, and this was just something transient.

Any changes of medications lately? spicy food? strong coffee/cocoa/chocolate? hydration levels?

Take care :YMHUG:

Morning all from Paris. Good night's sleep, no palpitations, no heart racing. Sure it was indigestion. My mother had exactly the same in her eighties. Funny how the body gets less tolerant as we age.
I did walk round to a local Paris doctor after finally arriving at hotel* but a lout sitting in the doorway told me he wasn't in.

*Great trouble finding a taxi at railway station. Three separate demos in Paris blocking all traffic. Nothing changes here.

Dome.

Whisky run later, she has drunk the last three bottles. I have helped a little.

Katie has just claimed her Apricots and left some eggs in exchange.
We’ve given her about 2kg still have a fridge full and more falling daily.

After jam and chutney what do you do with 20kg+ of apricots ?

Had a good walk today. bum & thigh muscles still getting tired, but feeling pretty good.
Sydney Swans leading Carlton 96-51 at 3/4 time. They'll now be two games clear of Geelong who are in 2nd place.
