Ordered a new TV. The third one in 20 years, so not over extravagant.

A shop in the town where I worked always had the latest electronic equipment, which got more capable (and cheaper), with the result that I never did make the decision to buy.

My TV, positively minute at 42 inches, is 15 years old now. I can't afford a new one until it breaks. Toshiba badged.

I've gone for a 43". We don't want room dominated by giant screen (although the huge screens are ludicrously cheap at Carrefour).

Went with D#1 (the newly minted CFI) to an informal get-together with alumni of the college flight program.
There were 20+ former A&P and flight students and a scattering of spouses.
Eight of us overlapped as students and/or instructors, two of whom are now running the program.
Two father / daughter combos, including yours truly, and one father / son combo who could not attend due to a death in the family. He was a former student of mine and his son was one of my daughter's instructors.
Five of us were current of former pilots from my former employer.
Others flew for Customs and Border Protection, corporately, and commuter airlines.
The time covered was 1980 to present
Many stories were told as the statute of limitations had expired for most (but not all of us).
Aircraft flown included Blackhawk, OH-6, AStar, A320 family, B373 and 787, Pilatus, Global Express and Gulfstream.
All in all we seem to have done quite well for ourselves.

Been a busy day today, trip to garage with Mrs 1DC's car cos a notice kept flashing up on the navigation screen saying enter password to synchronise then refusing to accept password. Lexus man says if password isn't used within three month it automatically cancels, how stupid is that! Job sorted . Continue on to the Jewellers to get watch fixed, it sets its time from smart watch but had gone wrong when new battery installed. Apparently the problem was the watch forgot where 12 o clock was, stupid watch. I understood things much better when cars had starting handles and watches had winders.
This last week Mrs 1DC or I have availed ourselves of the NHS everyday for something or other. Monday she had a blood test,tuesday we both had covid jabs, Wednesday she had a diabetes eye test at the hospital,thursday I was at dermetology at a local clinic, got a little cancer on the side of my head which won't kill me so isn't urgent and will be cut out some time in the next two months!,Friday she went to the dentist and found out she was at the wrong time so was rescheduled for next Wednesday. That was private but she was let off the fee for the time she had missed.Apar t from Mrs !DC cocking things up on Friday everything else was on time and without problem..
Another mate died today, it was a blessing for him to go in his present circumstances but we are slowly thinning out..

My first TV (CRT) was a Toshiba, lasted 18 years and I only binned it because the power switch had gone (stuck on ON, fortunately) and I was emigrating.
Current TV 59", great for movies (I only watch from DVDs also).
Quite fancy an 4K HDR screen next, but plan on having it behind a retractable decorative panel, so it will only be uncovered when watching a dvd.
As best I can calculate, there is no point getting any bigger than 75"-85", since the human eye can't make out any more detail within the recommended viewing angle at 4K resolution.

Good morning all. Like 1DC, rarely a week goes by that either Mrs. H or I don't make use of the health system.
Grey day today, currently 14C, forecast max 17C. Constant rain forecast for today, but it hasn't started here yet. Heavy overnight rain with some damage further south though.

I can remember (as I'm sure can a lot of members on this forum) when a 21" television was something only the more wealthy could afford! How times have changed. Now I have to decide whether it's cheaper to buy a new telly or upgrade my binoculars. Intervals between decisions seem to be getting shorter the older I get.

We wonder who buys all these huge TVs. You can cover a wall for €500-600. Surely not everyone lives in houses with immense living rooms ? Ours is 50m2 but walls either covered in pictures or huge windows. No room.

Carrefour has them stacked ten deep, every make under the sun, many I've never heard of.

I am with Wodrick on the prospects of changing /replacing the TV set. As a matter of fact I see no reason to change a device unless it misbehaves or it doesn't support the needed function.

Easter Sunday here a cloudy day I had to do some arranging in the kitchen cupboards before having the first coffee of the day. I didn't sleep very well up at 7:45

Morning folks. Καλό Πάσχα to all our Greek correspondents. Sunny. Safari camp for a few beers at lunchtime. They had a cow in their pond which is lined with plastic. Damaged of course. Now all the plants and fish have to come out and the fountains dismantled to replace the liner. Oh and two terrapins which just arrived there. No TV here. Haven't had one for 20 years. Use the laptop for viewing films.

First dawn through the new east windows I fitted yesterday.
They need cleaning, but there's a fair bit more light than the old ones.
And having swapped sash windows for big fixed pane ones, the scots pines in the middle distance are now framed like a picture, it's lovely.
