Good morning, it rains. 10°C expecting 10°C so this is it for the day.
Rabbits, rabbits, rabbits.
New calendar pages for May:
NZ Birds: the Yellow-Eyed Penguin (again) - "A tall, portly penguin with a pale yellow band of feathers that runs from each yellow eye around the nape" - this bird appears on the back of the NZ $5 note; Sir Edmund Hillary is depicted on the front.

Desk calendar on mantel, Vintage travel posters of Italy: Florence, Campanile di Giotto with the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in the background
Scenes of Italy: Forza d'Agrò, Messina, this view
NZ Weather: Taiari/Chalky Inlet Fiordland, under heavy cloud with misty mountains and a choppy sea with wind-blown spume.

Re: Airlines reliant on GPS
A friend worked as a checkout operator at Morrisons; there was a cunning plan for handling power cuts, next to each till was a hand-held calculator and a biro. Alas, only my friend and a few of her mates knew how to operate the calculator and work out how much change to give customers.G-CPTN wrote: ↑Mon Apr 29, 2024 6:41 pmSome years ago I owned a lefthanddrive vehicle (I was an overseas resident at the time).
As I tried to drive onto the ferry from Esbjerg (Denmark) to Harwich the clutch cable snapped.
On arrival in Britain, I drove to London and made my way to the main dealer to buy a clutch cable.
On arrival, there was a powercut and I was denied the clutch cable, despite me offering to 'overpay' in cash.
As a lefthanddrive clutch cable (which they had already produced) was only available from the main dealer, I was frustrated and had to sit and wait until the power came back on.

Morning folks. Clear and cool. Thatchers were here before 07.00. The mess progresses.

Thankyou for talking about boobs, Mrs 1DC was supposed to ring up and organise her inspection about a month ago. She has clearly forgotten. I will go and remind her!

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
I see that the first aircraft, 9H-GLOBL, for Global Airlines, much derided on TOP, is on its way to Europe. It seems to be following a rather odd route though. Mojave-Montreal-Prestwick-Beja-Malta. Surely it could do at least Mojave-Beja (HI-Fly's base in Portugal) non-stop? I notice also that it's flying at about FL 270 most of the time, which seems rather low, thus burning lots more fuel, hence the routing presumably. Presumably, it's not carrying passengers, so why the short-range flying and the lower levels? One can only imagine that they are not too confident in the aircraft's capabilities after its time in Mojave.

G’day
14°c, The soothsayer is going for 21°c , no chance.
Showers some heavy.
Car back home, flywheel replaced along with the RH drive shaft, over 900€ in components.
No more vibration !
SM hoping the dog charity shop is open – gone for books.

A couple of reasons are possible fot 9H-GLOBL's routings. Sector training for the pilots. Ie need X number of sectors to be released. That FL looks below RVSM. Numerous reasons for that. Dodgy autopilot, transponder not working properly, felt like it...

Thanks reddo. I'd forgotten about the sector requirements. I imagine whoever is flying that thing has not recently spent a lot of time in an A380!reddo wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 10:29 amA couple of reasons are possible fot 9H-GLOBL's routings. ETA; apparently it's flying the whole way with the Dunlops dangling - incredible! That accounts for the lower speed and altitude. It must be burning fuel at a phenomenal rate!

No RVSM capability was my first thought.reddo wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 10:29 amA couple of reasons are possible fot 9H-GLOBL's routings. Sector training for the pilots. Think of it as giving you something to do when you are not in the garden.
Also, the repairs to hands/wrists, when complete, will make the gardening easier.

Good morning, sunny with blue skies, 13mm of rain yesterday; now 3.9°C expecting 13°C.
The street seems very quiet, no passing traffic at all.
I see I have some pink roses in flower by the front steps.
