Terrible scenes from Valencia. Three adjoining apartment blocks on fire.

Ricardian-both articles were very interesting. Please keep us informed on ship developments.
More feedback Thu 22 Feb - from David Walker on Facebook group "Orkney past & present":
Good evening! Firstly, thanks for all your support, information and "shares" on the shipwreck post last week. As you may know from you support Sandays shipwreck got a lot of attention hitting the nationals and BBC! 530,000 page views in the first 12 hours! It's still early days, but it seems possible it could be saved! Below is from Mr Mark Porter, who has written a studied the history of ships. It looks like we may have something special! Will keep you all updated, and thanks again for the support!
Thank you for your time and also for the additional pictures, which show further details.
To re-cap on our conversation, I believe from the pictures that the following assumptions can be made:
1: the vessel was almost certainly built in England
2: the close spacing of the timbers indicates that she is quite possibly a warship (my caveat here is that the bottom planking of the hull is too thin; I would expect the planking to be at least 3 inches thick, which this is clearly not)
3: she dates from the early to middle years of the 17th century (1600-1650ish) Or possibly even from late Elizabethan times.
I can explain the reasoning for this more fully once further photographs have been taken and examined.
The very badly eroded timber which crosses all the other and is currently the highest part, is the keel, which was actually the lowest part; the wreck is upside-down.
The largest timbers which cross the keel at right angles are called the ‘floors’, and are each bolted through the keel with a large iron bolt in the centre
The remaining timbers, which fit between the ends of the floor timbers, but do not reach as far as the keel, are called ‘futtocks’. To be precise, these are the lower, or ‘first futtocks’.
The rectangular channels cut into the underside of the floor timbers each side of the keel are called ‘limber holes’, and were made to allow any water which got into the hull to be sucked out by a pump located at the centre of the ship, with its end in the space at the end of the futtocks.
The ends of the futtocks, and of the floor timbers, all appear to be cut of square, which negates the possibility of them having been joined to adjacent timbers by a method using chocks, which was developed in the mid to later 17th century and beyond.
I would very much like for you to take some further pictures; I will call you to discuss, and will confirm any special wishes by email also.
Please share this information with all interested parties.

Good morning all, 9/15 today. Clear blue sky today, currently 24C, forecast max 38C, and feeling quite humid. Likely to get thunderstorms and maybe hail this evening.
Ricardian, the boat story is most interesting, as is the analysis in your last post. Please keep them coming.

8/15,one up on yesterday! Went to York and it rained all the way there but was dry all the way back, sun was setting as we came back over the Humber bridge at about 1720. I reckon we have gained at least 2 and a half hours more daylight since the sun started to come towards us again on December 22nd.

New hard drive in computer. Some sort of new technology. It is super fast. The old one was apparently really on the way out it took 3 hrs to clone.
A typical drive has a high-enough capacity nowadays that yes, they will take that long to copy from one to another. I put a replacement 4TB drive in my server and left it to copy data across. It took about 8 hours and was just finishing up the following morning.

If you've got 1TB to copy and a 6Gbit/s interface, if it's doing a bitwise copy then it'll take an hour. If it's reading each file individually then it's going to take quite a bit longer because it has to read thefile, write the file and update the directory entry on the new disk, which requires moving the disk head (way slower). Unless you're using fancy SSD units, of course, which have no moving parts but cost a lot more.

Morning, all. A lot of hard rain in the night. To kill the drought completely we need several weeks of that, not just one night. Many reservoirs are at less than 10% capacity.

Our provider of UK TV has been forced out of business. No idea as to a replacement.

Morning folks. Blazing sunshine again. Mammoth watering. Llondel it was a SATA SSD 1TB unit that went in. Just had the invoice it was 200 Euro. One strongly suspects mate's rates.

Temperature just gone into double figures. Gusting 70km/h, broken.

The gardner has returned from a long visit to the UK.

Every Thursday I send an email to each of our two shops with my weekly order for groceries, etc., they deliver the goods on Friday and I pay by bank transfer. This afternoon (Fri 23 Feb) I got an email from one of the shops asking if I was OK because they had not received my usual order. On checking I found the order sitting in my "drafts" folder and quickly sent it on its way with an apology. What a great place to live!

Good morning all, 12/15 today. Light rain overnight and drizzling now. The predicted thunderstorm didn't materialise here, but other places copped it. Currently 20C, forecast max 23C.

Cold (which is ok) but damp, after the rain (which makes it miserable). Both happy after passing dental inspections yesterday.

Morning folks. Hot and dry. Safari camp for a few beers. See how their guests got on last week. One English lady had to be choppered out of the bush to hospital. A German guy also in hospital. Both had some sort of bug and severe dehydration. Their guests are having trouble with the the heat at the moment. In their defence it shouldn't be like this.

The government have pushed out a very rare health warning to stay in the shade, wear wide brimmed hats and drink plenty of water.
