I would have expected more ability with computers, despite your age. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigger_(dog)

Morning folks. Been a pretty miserable morning but starting to clear up now. Just had a long e-mail from my ex-wife. We seem to be running the village. Typical. Very nice little village and one of the things she is doing is planting wild flowers along the grass verges. No mowing and more wild life. Excellent.

Bread making going on in the kitchen.

Is Wikipedia allowed to say that Boac?

Don't care. I am fed up with all this faux indignation. As far as I am concerned, the name was for a dog, not a person. Time for the kids to stop sniggering in the school playground behind the bike sheds?

Classical Latin really (nigreos) - French nègre, derived from Spanish negro derived from the Latin.

Bowdlerizing the past is never a good idea, vide. Stalin's airbrush... the hound's name was nigger because it was black, and at the time sensibilities were somewhat different to what they are today. Leave the book, the film, memorials etc. alone. Don't screw with history lest your forget and screw up the future, to misquote Bismarck, but perhaps try and call you own black dog Schwarz or something equally less provocative these days! ;)))

The whole nigger affair is often predicated upon faux outrage whatever side of the argument people come at it from!

One idiot that I had this discussion with argued that Niger and Nigeria came from the same Latin word, which is baloney as it comes from the Berber/Tuareg for "river among or of rivers" (in the case of the river), much like the word Kaffir, derived from the Arabic is a word for non-believer which if uttered or printed in SA, can result in a jail sentence! Connotation is everything I guess!

I believe I don't want to end up in Pollsmoor prison, so I don't use the word Kaffir (oops!)...

Try living over here. The land of righteous indignation. While they are rewriting their history and arguing over pronouns, kids are being murdered in schools. Guns before children. Just one of the reasons I have never sought citizenship. Excuse the brief rant. I know this should be on the political thread, but I don't frequent that thread. Too much hate and discontent. (Ah, I feel better for that.)

OHL what if a NR called another NR a Kaffir would he still get slung into jail. If not that is discrimination. Same here if I used the K word I would be out of the country in seconds. Not sure if they know the N word. I will ask.

Cleared up a bit now may take off the pullover as it has reached 30C.

An interesting question, and one which I assume has never been tested in the courts. Perhaps you and I should have a loud but academic "argument" about the derivation of the word over a beer in a pub in Johannesburg, or Cape Town and see what happens! I have never heard a black use the word Kaffir in SA, and it is generally used as an insult by whites, so perhaps my idea above would not be a good one.

What is in a word or a name? I guess it's all in the connotation vide. a Boy Named Sue! ;)))

Time to get the red carpet out for 0485 landing hopefully at 1305 tomorrow at Perry Oaks and not five hours late like last time. But if we had the same cabin crew it would be a pleasure to see them.

The 'discussion' on the name of Gibson's dog has reached its conclusion here. If anyone wishes to continue, please do so on the 'Politics & Controversial Topics' section in 'SOCIAL', in recognition of LG's feelings.

Subject for discussion: Should one permit one's wife to accompany one on a visit to a medical specialist to discusss a problem with an organ women don't have? I mean dash it all, other than my street cat and my pension (not quite sure about the latter) there is hardly anything I can call my own or under my control (not sure about the cat, in fact any cat) and here we are facing a situation where I might have to answer intimate questions in my wife's presence. Anyone?

Would/Does she permit you to come along and discuss her women's problems?

The BBMF will be passing over Chateau 4ma in a couple of hours time. St Vincent's is quite close by. Special moment for Mrs 4ma - her Uncle Derek was an armourer on 617 at the time of the raid.
It's always my fault - SWMBO

I shall be watching the movie tonight.
Oddly enough, the bomb aimer who dropped one of the bombs that finally destroyed the Mohne Dam came from my nearest small town, and he was called Vincent.

All this talk about the "N" word..... I know this is not a music thread, but this song is absolutley brilliant and appropriate......listen to the words:

B-) Life may not be the party you hoped for, but while you're here, you may as well dance. B-)

I appreciate the consideration, but what I was actually trying to say (apparently badly) was that I should have posted my comments on the P & C thread. I wasn't criticizing the comments of others who were posting with regards to the dog!
