From the "Orcadian":
Memorial events marking the 76th anniversary of the sinking of HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow will take place today, Wednesday........

I think they have stemmed the leaking oil now but some years ago on a calm day and when the light was right, from about 500ft above the Royal Oak we could clearly see the outline of the ship with a streak of oil coming from it.

Love smoked fish hard to get good stuff here.

Our local fish shop has its own fishing boat in the village of Gourdon. Their smoked haddock is out of this world but it's an odd thing, with my English accent if I ask for smoked haddock they will try and give me the horrible yellow dyed 'smoked' haddock. If my Scottish wife asks for it she gets the proper undyed smoked fish. Make sure you ask the undyed version if in these parts.

A little further south of here is the village of Auchmithie near Arbroath - the village is the original home of the Arbroath smokie. A must have is lunch in the But'n'Ben restaurant - run by two elderly couples their smoked haddock pancakes with cream are orgasmic!

Snoek in kedgeree would be very fiddly, too many bl**dy bones. But is does taste nice.

The bones are fairly large so they can be lifted out while flaking the fish. Kedgeree, kidneys, white pudding and a steak with your bacon and eggs and a pint mug of tea. Loads of toast with it and you're more or less ready to face the day.

Tis quite easy to smoke your own fish. Mackerel smoke well using oak chips in a small domestic smoker.

London 1927

Short film of London in colour, 1927-I don't think we have seen this one yet (the music is a bit annoying!)

In other news, Mumbai man found alive in mortuary dies two days later So- All's well that ends well ;)

Cheers,

You should read the comments in the Daily Mail article.

CharlieOneSix - oil is leaking but in very small quantities after some major work to drain the tanks. Very tricky in view of the proximity of human remains and some munitions.

Define "a lot", said the Canadian who got over 18 feet of the stuff last winter (and didn't complain, but did buy an off-road 4x4 with good ground clearance this summer) ;)

Thanks for the article, ricardian - must have been a very tricky job.

Looking forward to the morn - driving up the A96 for lunch north of Inverurie at Morgan Mcveigh's with two of my pilot mates from my Bristow and BCAL days. One of them I haven't seen in the 16 years since I retired. Good weather forecast as well.

I found the answer to snow in these parts is to buy an Audi A6 Allroad - 4 wheel drive and I can raise the air suspension to almost match a Range Rover. We've had no significant snow since I bought it three years ago.......

Could do with one of those in some of the places I go up north, and not because of snow.

I've got a new snow shovel. Last time I bought one there was no snow to speak of for three years. :)

One likes one's grub, Mr Wodrick. Breakfast is the best one of the day. Pound of pork bangers, two slices of toast and four eggs is standard fare. Big fry up is a weekend thing.
