Over in a different universe, and some while ago, we debated the difference between a "Gala Pie" and a "Grosvenor Pie".

It was more or less concluded that sutheners called it gala, and civilised folk from t'north called it grosvenor. (Cos sutheners couldn't pronounce grosvenor).

Either way, neither of them is a pork pie with a scotch egg in the middle.

A scotch egg is an egg wrapped in sausage meat and breadcrumbed.

A gala or grosvenor pie is a pork pie with just an egg in the middle, not scotch egg.

Mr Draper has a lot to answer for. I've just come back from the Co-op with pork pies, scotch eggs and gala pie. Sod processed meat warnings. ;)

Also got the car done today (250 quid) and saw my heart surgeon who said things are coming along very well and he may even discharge me in a few months time. It really seems like the last op (the fifth) worked. The trace showed no signs of ectopic beats for the first time since my bypass, but we've had a false dawn before, so time will tell.

Repatriate at once to where such things can be found. Forget fajitas and hot dogs. And the other weird stuff the cousins call food.

They have much to answer for, and as for that bloke in RSA, yes I'll just nip from Stratford to Cleveland on the one day that is not the festivities.

Last time we were back we stopped at Mr T Esco for provisions for the journey, two Pork Pies and two Scotch Eggs, perfect in flight sustenance. perhaps be the same again.

That makes two of us. Haven't had a good Scotch egg for a while.

On a side note re Scotch eggs, I was watching a cooking program the other day where
they showed how to make and cook them. I might give it a go as it isn't that hard.

mmmmm !

Here's the egg that goes into a grosvenor pie. No doubt the chicken gave a sigh of relief after producing one of those!

Phew! Made it! Had a devil of a time finding youse again, very few clues in the other place which I almost no longer visit, but I left one or two of my own, not sure how long that will last :-?

Had my first senior moment with the captcha, but all is good now (thanks again Alison, and great work!)

Cheers,

Maxbert

Yes, only the 100 pages or so Maxbert! And of course, a very warm welcome.

I seem to have over-indulged in pork pies and Scotch eggs. :@)

Will shove some down the 'puter to 500N and limeygal.....

Don't be fooled. For my O level domestic science (fancy name for cookery) I had to make a picnic. I chose scotch eggs as one of my dishes. During the exam smoke started to fill the room-I thought it was the girl next to me was burning something, unfortunately it was my oil. It had got too hot and started to smoke. The classroom was evacuated while windows were thrown open and we had all stopped choking. I was told later that the only reason they passed me was because I didn't panic. 'course not, I thought it was her next to me. Ignorance really is bliss! :-BD

... oh, and on the subject of crème eggs, if you ever want a truly, truly disgusting experience, try microwaving one.
Foil off, on a microwaveable plate, full power for not very long, and watch. A small dimple will typically appear at the top, which will then collapse, and a glutinous, yellow-white slimy lava will then erupt down the side of the egg. Doesn't taste too good either, I'm told. Personally I had to avert my eyes.

Must admit, I've been known to burn the off thing, including a frying pan, saucepan
and even over cook a leg of venison in a slow cooker :o)

But most of the time things go right !

Right time for a spot of reading the sack. Still ploughing through Max Hasting's efforts on WW2 which although reasoned and measured sometime gets really bogged down with precise numbers which he admits elsewhere are, at beast, dodgy guesstimates. Still good winding down at the end of the day material.

Night night folkies. (-|

Greetings,
19, blue, he thinks it's going to be 24, mind you he thought it was going to be 25 yesterday.
Tuesday 13th, for the Spanish that is the same as Friday 13th for the English, best do a Hill St this morning.
After the last storm the pond has gone green, have to dose it up with chemicals today.
Still waiting for funds from my purchaser.
Run out of Ras el Hanout - emergency.
