OK, I'm a social media dummy.

If someone on a website requests a comment with "@some_name" supplied as the return address what do you do? Do you have to go to a particular social media site to reply? can you reply from inside the current webpage?

I searched the 'net and can't find anything useful.

I think you can only click on the @....... if you are signed up to whichever platform is involved. Probably best to ignore.

I assumed that the "@fred" in a reply meant that it was a reply to fred's post, when it might otherwise not have made sense if it was several posts later.

Thank you for the replies - I left the subject open hoping one of our social media users would have the answer.
I tried a few ideas but I suppose I will just have to remain one of the happily uneducated.

We might be able to help a little more if you could provide some details? It's probably too late for the actual 'event', but if it occurs again a copy of the actual event would be a great help. Without context your original query cannot be usefully be answered.

PS You do realise that you are one of the "social media users" here..................? :))
