Japan earthquake.
Japan earthquake.
What an awful start to 2024 for these folk. The last big one in 2011 produced 40m high waves and trashed the Fukushima nuclear plant.

There is a nuclear power plant at Shika, here

I spoke with the Head of the Japanese Red Cross in 2013. He thought the Japanese Government had not changed their approach one wit post Fukushima, and that preparations for the next one remained woeful.
Government studies massively underestimate consequences, so that corporations need spend little to mitigate potential damage.
There is a huge plant at Kashiwazaki, about 100 miles up the NE coast, but this would appear to be not likely to get serious consequences, based on the initial report of the epicenter.
