Brizzy this evening
Well done the QANTAS captain that did the approach through this lot on QF 569 Perth-Brisbane this evening. Shortly after we penetrated this the electrical fireworks started in earnest but it was smooth all the way down!

Um, what is that? (Aside from the aircraft wing of course)

Roll cloud. Leading edge of a rapidly advancing front. Been hit by them a time or two. Wind changes 180 deg in about a minute and it can get very bumpy.

Great photo.

Very bumpy hot day here with thermals and wind shear over the trees in the spam can in the SE England today... must go and have a calming cup of tea and try not stare at the beautiful Brazilian Commercial instructor in the corner.
Talking of roll clouds, the US seems to do the real McCoy, those and wet microbursts...

Nacreous, arcus (roll and shelf), lenticular , mammatus (a kind of cloud Slasher would like), Charlie Bravo etc. the world of clouds is a beautiful and Australia seems to have conditions that will throw them all up at one time or another.

Them Summertime Southerly Busters in SYD were always tight on app for 34 where, if the wind changed too close to the ground, it was balls to the wall without hesitation and then try for 16 if the vis was ok.
SYD SBs were rough as sh!t from 3,000ft down, and always incurred some measure of 'eyeball bounce'. However Kai Tak with a typhoon moving in could be even bloody hairier at times.

Late Sunday afternoon, stinking hot day all day, heard thunder not far to the north. Looked at the radar and there was a single, small cell heading east north of Hornsby. Not another drop of rain to be seen anywhere. Heard on the news that it had dumped on a small bushfire as it went over.
