That took some finding....."Broadsword calling Danny Boy"...."Where Eagles Dare" was filmed at that castle. Still have no idea about the Kia-Ora connection though.

Re: Formula One
Well the Bahrain race was a boring procession. I've had more fun on the Hilton Park Services footbridge on the M6 watching motorway traffic speed - or sometimes crawl - underneath.

Remembering the crash of the Turkish Airlines DC10 near Paris which happened 50 years ago today, also on a Sunday. Sleep well cousin Robert. My goodness, it doesn't seem 50 years ago. A British Airways helicopter pilot from Aberdeen who I knew slightly, Julian P, was on board. He was supposed be St...

In 2010 we had a significant snowfall which froze onto the roof as ice a couple of inches thick. As it thawed it percolated through the tiles into the ceiling and ran down the electric cables. Same thing happened here in the heavy snow and long -10C temperatures of December 2010. The house is a con...

Had to look that up - International Trade in Arms Regulations. How odd, even Sikorsky's own brochure on the S92 SAR version shows a clear view of the FLIR with a statement on the photo that "This Page Does Not Contain Export Controlled Technical Data". https://www.lockheedmartin.com/content/dam/lock...

Re: Bristow crews vote for strike action - shades of 1977?
From Energy Voice 29/2/24: Bristow helicopter workers have postponed planned strike action out of respect after a fatal crash off Norway on Wednesday night. Further costs and delays for overdue and over-budget Ferguson ferries. Only six years late. Under the latest estimates, the work to build the two ferries will be around triple the first price of £97m. Further cost overuns ......and who has owned Ferguson Marine since December 2019? The SNP led Scott...

Re: When did the flying bug first really bite?
Father trained as an RAF pilot in WW2, mother was in the WAAF, so I got the bug from that. I joined the Air Training Corps at 13, went solo on gliders at 16. Went to RAF Hornchurch for aptitude and medical tests but failed the RAF medical for pilot as my eyesight was just out of limits. Found out th...

Britten-Norman on the way out?
From The Daily Telegraph today: A BRITISH company that makes aircraft once used by MI5 is on the verge of calling in the administrators, months after it became entangled in a row over unpaid invoices. Britten-norman said last week that it intended to appoint an administrator in a court filing, a mov...

Stunning day here! Not a cloud in the sky, no wind and -2C earlier now heading up to the forecast +8C. Replaced a jammed zone valve in the heating system so we now have hot water again from the boiler rather than from the immersion heater. Diverticulitis has been giving me grief for the last 4 days ...

A friend of mine has made a wine from an antidiuretic hybrid grape. It reduces the number of trips us older men make to the toilet during the night. It's being sold as Pinot More.

Re: RFA crew shortage as well as a Rear Admiral shortage....
He/She has now embarked most of our F-35 force :)) I've read eight of them - I wonder how many are operational and crewed ashore in the other squadron (809). They might need to put GPS trackers on them in a ship that size but no doubt the Merlins will take up a lot of room. Good luck to the lads an...
