Re: Chaos in France
I used to muse about two old fishermen sitting comparing words in Danish and English.
Whilst there are similarities, there are, also, differences.
The English worn 'sky' refers to the blue bit, whereas in Danish it refers to 'cloud' or shade.

Re: Broadband
There is a slight kerfuffle about keeping our original telephone number but that's really a minor issue. That was a consideration with me when I moved and changed provider at the same time, however, I managed to spoof the system (thanks to my son working for BT at the time). My telephone number dat...

Re: Chaos in France
Whilst living in Denmark, a suggestion was made by a colleague that we should 'share a beer' (it had been a dedicated session), to which the response was "Jeg had aldrigt taenkt at man kun del en Øl" which was a play on grammar - as there is a distinction between "en Øl" and "et Øl" with one referri...

Re: Rant of the Day v2.
In a previous life I used to 'make paper' once a year. We rented a papermill and created our paper from cotton shoddy. The finished product was used to make friction material (after impregnating with resin) for vehicle automatic transmissions. It was a fascinating process to see a 'slurry' containin...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
I admit that feeding birds is 'entertainment' for the dozen people that I live with (in sheltered accommodation). In addition to the usual sparrows, tits and starlings (greedy beggars), we have had nuthatches (for the peanuts) - and grey squirrels (for both seeds and nuts). Excess human food (bread,...

I feed the birds with seed (and, sometimes, peanuts), however there are some who say that the birds should be left to find their own natural food-sources.

Re: RFA crew shortage as well as a Rear Admiral shortage....
A few years ago I watched the 'last' (?) RFA vessel being launched from Swan Hunter's yard on the Tyne.
"Largs Bay was built by the Swan Hunter yard in Wallsend and launched for sea trials in November 2006, sailing into history as the last full vessel built on the Tyne."

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Bricking up basement windows is HARD! The stuff for 3 windows weighs a sixth of a ton, you're on your knees or your belly most of the time, and the previous job was a complete horlicks and needed a big clean out. Total pig getting the last brick in, and it was only on reviewing the video done by a ...

"Most of the deciduous trees are bare now, still some oaks and beeches holding on to their leaves."
Whereas in the UK most trees are in leaf, not necessarily full leaf yet.
Laburnums almost over.

When I logged-on just now, there were no chicks visible so I wondered if they had fledged, but they were just out of frame.

Re: Stiga ride on lawnmower
WRG to a ride-on mower, non-collecting mulching mowing requires frequent mowing, or a preliminary cut with a high setting, otherwise the cuttings turn yellow and affect the main lawn with the risk of mould. Some mowers have a special attachment for mulching where the grass is 'recyled' and re-choppe...

I know we were expecting to view an 'incident', but it seemed ages before anything 'happened' after the initial 'flash'.
