Re: The totally-totally non-political show of all times: 'united by music' - Eurovision song contest!
Deliberately didn't watch it even if it was available in NZ ? but was subjected to a sample as part of the 6.00 pm TV News programme. ( News ? who cares ?) Song Contest ? There are no "Songs" anymore, so called "Singers" just rant and rave, perform gymnastics and throw guitars about and the words, i...

For a million years ( it seems ) I have had a Direct Debit instruction with Natwest, to pay my still maintained long time UK Health Insurance Policy ( I'm covered in NZ) but although this was paid as usual on 1st March, on 1st April ( April Fool ? ) they denied it, and again o...

Re: Friday Jokes
and why do so many TV "documentaries" have music playing in the background, can't follow the dialogue as a result. Totally unnecessary...so that listening to the musical accompaniment would addle the brains of the defence team?

Re: Airlines reliant on GPS
I had no experience of GPS during my career, either. Basic INS was nearest I got to it. Remember Radio Ranges ? !!
Recently talking about old time airline Navigation to a friend at the local Aero Club, a young student said "What's a Sextant ?" One could weep.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Karearea - Hardware Hell ? Well named. They have recently opened a new branch near us. The new one is about the size of 18 football pitches, now a 15 minute car ride away instead of the previous 5 minute walk, which they have now closed, and even if they have it how the hell do you ever find it? Las...

Re: My first car
On moving to NZ initially bought a cheap car advertised privately. On the test drive all seemed well except that "something" didn't seem right ? I queried the relative low mileage, around 80,000 but the owner gave an acceptable explanation and we bought it. The odometer showed "Blank" 81234, and whe...

Re: Friday Jokes
Are first cars a joke ? but since we're 'ere the first car I ever drove, and passed my one and only driving test on, Worldwide, was a 1936 Morris 8, also needing the occsional handcrank, but the first car I ever bought was a Minor 1,000, soon superceded by the then new design Morris 1,000 Convertibl...

As a Yorkshireman - brought up in Lancashire ! - I should prefer Yorkshire Tea I guess, but I can’t really tell the difference, and it isn’t available in my N.Z. local supermarket anyway.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Supermarket tea ? English Breakfast is all I’ll ever drink. Any Brand. Keep your Earl Grey’s and the like. Not my cup of tea. ( Pun intended ) Flying around the world cured me of milk and sugar too, tea or coffee black is now my standard. All I needed was tea bags or instant coffee in my briefcase,...

He outlived the squash player (both in their 50s). I recall as a young co-pilot often flying with a couple of Captains in their late 40’s who exercised daily when down the route. One would occasionally ask me to check him into the hotel and take his luggage, and he would then run to the hotel from ...
