I never cared for his songs or personae.
The first of his songs I recall is from 1967: "Love You Till Tuesday", a chirpy, barrer-boy kind of ditty that seemed a bit past its best-before date then.
The rest of his stuff seemed to me to be very fraught or dreary, or downright weird.
