Re: Aussie Census
Useless as. Completed today, having selected "not working" all the transport options were suppressed so there's no record of what type of vehicle I used for recreation, going to the shops, etc. There is a use of transport outside going to work. Second home, nil there on the night. Computer...

Re: Griffin down in Snowdonia...
I read that they were on a Put down, pick up exercise. Any helo pilots on here ? Looks like a hell of a place for a landing. Nothing untoward about that as a landing spot: level and clear area under the skids, moderate altitude, clear skies, no doubt the wind was assessed as part of the exercise. T...

Re: Helicopter down near Pearl Habour
First, he's making an approach to an area without a helipad so it's reasonable to surmise that there is a problem. Second, he could have set up with a much steeper approach to allow for a loss of power/control. That approach was doomed to end in tears. Third, the failure was most likely either the s...

Re: Floats on skid helicopters how effective they are.
If you have a damaged gearbox then you can be in a world of strife, depending on which gearbox and what damage. The 212 has a main gearbox (MGB), tail rotor gearbox (90° box), combining gearbox and the 45° box! Either the 45° or 90° boxes will bugger up your tail rotor drive and are a PITA depending...

Re: Floats on skid helicopters how effective they are.
The 212 is a twin engined helicopter: autorotation occurs when all power is lost, be it one engine or multi engine doing the driving. If there is a premeditated ditching due to other failures (tail rotor, MR control, loss/lack of fuel) then there are techniques for such a landing, effectiveness of w...

Re: Floats on skid helicopters how effective they are.
Your friend may have a degree, but not the knowledge. How unusual. If you're referring to permanent floats, they are designed for water operation and I can't see what is the query. If you're referring to emergency pop-out floats, they are designed to keep the machine upright within certain limits, e...

Re: Safari is crashing world wide
There is actually a real 'crash' issue with Safari, generally on iPhone and iPad, which started on the 27th January. The browser will shut down as soon as you tap the URL bar, or sometimes open a new tab. Caused by Apple's Safari Suggestions, the workaround is to disable the selection in Settings/Sa...
