Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Good morning all, fine day with some cloud. Currently 16C, forecast max 20C. Jim, you have reminded me to have our oven checked. Mrs. H noticed that an oven thermometer was reading high compared to the thermostat setting. I monitored it and also tried a new oven thermometer. It seems to overheat, th...

Re: Friday Jokes
One for Jim. A Rabbi, an Anglican minister and a Roman Catholic priest found themselves chatting, and talk turned to their career prospects. They asked the RC what the highest position he could aspire to was, and he replied that in theory, he could become Pope, but in reality, the best he could hope...

Thanks to those who have some expertise in these matters, especially Probes & Fox3, for your analyses of the situation.

Re: Darwin Awards
Used to run rafting trips on the Thompson & Mitchell Rivers in Victoria. On one trip on the Mitchell we rescued two young blokes who had bought a couple of 'yellow peril' lightweight toy rafts from a disposals store, complete with plastic paddles. The owner had told them they would be fine. When we ...

Re: Animals Behaving Badly
^ seems like 'Old Tom' was a bit of a rascal and a traitor to Cetaceans [-X Very interesting. Orcas will eat whales. He probably pulled the boats out so they'd kill a whale and he could catch a meal while they were chopping up the carcass. Yes, apparently the orcas used to eat the lips and offal of...

Re: Animals Behaving Badly
At Eden on the NSW South Coast there is a 'Killer Whale Museum' with the skeleton of Old Tom, an orca that used to tow whalers' boats out when there where whales in the area. There's a photo on the link showing how his teeth are worn. Granddaughter got into trouble in primary school for arguing with...

I think I've seen something similar but not the same, but Channel Islands or Normandy. Doesn't sound right though.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread VI
Thanks Karearea, I'm planning on just walking a couple of hundred metres down the street. I have no intention of being more than a very short dash from a loo.

Re: Millions of us might be **** if we ignore the Russian-Ukraine war
As some had predicted Shoigu has been given the boot as Russian Defence Minister. In his place is a complete and utter banker, who like Shoigu knows sweet FA about the military. Which probably means putin is moving his little toy soldiers around a tabletop in his bunker and issuing stupid orders hi...

Re: Wot's for Tea, Ma?
They are trying to fatten me up. Breakfast was stewed fruit with yoghurt which I'd ordered, plus a large fresh fruit salad & muesli which I hadn't. Poached egg & tomato, toast & marmalade and apple juice, all of which I'd ordered. Instant coffee.

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
Thanks for the physio advice, Limeygal. I think I can access a treatment plan via my local GP & physio-magician. No aurora here, even if we had been in range. Just clouds & rain. I have seen one in Sydney in the late '50s or early '60s, and in Tumut we saw the red glow of one occasionally. Rain toda...

Hospital food. It's usually pretty good here, but in the ICU it's pretty basic Breakfast was 2 weetbix, fruit & juice. Dietician came today so I'll probably get yoghurt, fruit & muesli for breakfast, plus a menu for the following day to pick from. Lunch was soup, salmon & veges, Dinner was soup, a s...

Re: The really boring and totally pointless snippets thread V
I'm sure when I was at school it was "rooves" :-\ but that seems out of favour these days. Me too, but there's probably been a bit of drift there over time. Another example: when I was doing clever stuff back in the day, I remember registering patents (as in 'pay-tents') but everyone seems to speak...
